Veneers are dental restorative treatment options used to change the colour, shape, size, length and position of anterior teeth. Dental veneers are often made to significantly improve the appearance of your teeth, and in turn, the overall aesthetics of your smile.
Veneers can be either porcelain (Made by a local Brisbane laboratory) or sometimes a composite veneer (a resin based restorative material)
In Aesthetic dentistry Veneers have great visual results!
In some cases, dental veneers fill in gaps on sound, healthy teeth and maybe used as an alternative to orthodontic treatment.
Compared to full coverage tooth reconstructions such as dental crowns, veneers are considered a more conservative restorative treatment option because they are less invasive and preserve your tooth structure more to enable their placement.
Dental veneers may be recommended to correct and improve the appearance of:
- Discoloured teeth
- Worn teeth from grinding
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Irregular shaped teeth
- Gaps between the teeth

COSMETIC BONDING

Bonding is the application of a tooth-coloured composite resin to repair a decayed, chipped, fractured or discoloured tooth. Unlike porcelain veneers, which are manufactured in a laboratory and require a customized mould to achieve a proper fit, bonding can be done in a single visit. The procedure is called bonding because the material bonds to the tooth.
Bonding is among the easiest and least expensive of cosmetic dental procedures. The composite resin used in bonding can be shaped and polished to match the surrounding teeth. Most often, bonding is used for cosmetic purposes to improve the appearance of a discoloured or chipped tooth. It also can be used to close spaces between teeth, to make teeth look longer or to change the shape or colour of teeth.
Sometimes, bonding also is used as a cosmetic alternative to amalgam fillings, or to protect a portion of the tooth’s root that has been exposed when gums recede.
Once the shade (colour) is chosen, the tooth is prepared, the bonding material is placed and set using a curing light. After the bonding material hardens, our friendly dentist will further trim and shape and polish it.
It usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour to complete the procedure. If you’re having more than one tooth done, you may need to schedule several visits.
Tea, coffee, tabacco smoke and other substances can stain the resin. To prevent or minimize stains, it’s essential to avoid eating or drinking foods that can stain for the first 48 hours after any composite procedure. In addition, brush your teeth often and have them cleaned our dentist regularly.
Risks
The composite resin used in bonding isn’t as strong as a natural healthy tooth. Biting your fingernails or chewing on ice or pens can chip the material. Bonding usually lasts several years before it needs to be repaired or replaced. How long it actually lasts depends on how much bonding was done and your oral habits.

Philips Zoom take home whitening – up to 10 shades lighter in 2 weeks!
Are you thinking about whitening your teeth? Teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry treatments. It can be used to whiten teeth that are stained or discoloured, lightening them by several shades for a whiter-looking smile.
Our dentists will be able to assess your oral health and recommend the whitening method that’s best for you. Depending on the type and severity of the staining, we may suggest one or more of the following treatments:
- A professional cleaning to remove external staining caused by food, tobacco etc
- Use of a whitening toothpaste to help remove surface stains between dental visits
- Use of a convenient, affordable whitening gel or whitening strips for extra results
- Bleaching (at-home) for more stubborn stains or yellowing
- Veneers or bonding to fix irregular or damaged teeth or to achieve specific results
Ask our dentist which whitening technique is best for you.
- Teeth that are yellow respond best to bleaching. Brown or grey teeth, or teeth striped or mottled from tetracycline or too much fluoride, may not whiten evenly when bleached.
- People with periodontal disease or particularly sensitive teeth may want to avoid chemical whitening techniques that can irritate tender gums.
- Bleaching is not recommended if you have tooth-coloured fillings, crowns, caps or bonding in your front teeth-the bleach will not change the colour of these materials, making them stand out in your newly whitened smile. You may want to investigate other options, like veneers or bonding with our dentist.
- In some cases involving serious tooth or jaw problems, a crown or cap may also result in a whiter and more appealing smile.
